ROLL OUT

MAY 6th, 2009

JOSH HAIMES

ALAN O'HASHI
JOAQUIN ESPINOSA
LACEY COOVER

Josh Haimes pushed a tire through downtown Boulder on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6th. With the help of photographer Joaquin M. Espinosa and videographer Alan O'Hashi, the performance was captured in both stills and video. Lacey Coover, who conceived the piece, followed with chalk in hand, marking the route as they went.

ARTDISTRICT’s public performance was inspired by elephantjournal.com’s vision of a mindful life and the work of international artist Francis Alÿs.

ROLL OUT
was created to accompany elephantjournal.com’s 'Walk the Talk Showwith Waylon Lewis.' ARTDISTRICT’s performance was imagined as a way to draw the public’s attention to our nation’s enormous dependence on motor vehicles. Indeed, the performance emphasized the power of alternative transportation—the path taken by Haimes explored the farmer’s market, bike paths, handrails, and other unexpected and often overlooked places and structures. Moreover, his path through Pearl Street and interactions with passersby and standing public art were engaging and unexpected.

Special thanks to Alan O'Hashi of Boulder Community Media for filming the piece.
An artist himself, he also created a video of ROLL OUT.

Josh Haimes is also DJ. Listen online HERE.

Photographs by Joaquin Espinosa. An accomplished scientist, you can visit his lab website HERE.

ARTISTIC LICENSING

LINDSEY WOLF
ALYSSA REESE
LINDSEY CASH

The first installment of "Artistic Licensing" took place in front of the Boulder Theater with the help of Lindsey Wolf, Alyssa Reese, and Lindesey Cash. Based on a concept Lacey imagined, photos were taken and information was gathered for each recipient with licenses to be issued officially at a later date. If you 'applied' for a license and did not receive it, sorry! It is being revised and upgraded for future events.
