After appearing on 2 local radio stations, KBCO and KGNU, Michael taught a hands-on make-your-own-mini-synthesizer WORKSHOP at BMoCA upstairs. He showed participants how to build their own portable noise making devices using simple components and found containers. Check out Michael's synthpack demo HERE.

A PUBLIC SOUND INTERVENTION followed. Particpants gathered in the bandshell downtown and played with their freshly-made synthpacks. Michael led the group through a series of experiments that included tuning into to each other, tuning into environmental sounds, and then exploring extremely dissonant tones.

Michael's SCREENING and RECEPTION at Atmosphere followed on Saturday evening. He began the night discussing major themes in his work - Sarcasm, Prayer & Narcissism and pre-screening part of his current project exploring Buddhism in the West. It was a packed house - many were impressed and a handful were challenged by his exploration of faith and religion through sarcasm and personal anecdotes.

Several multimedia pieces were shown at the reception while more people trickled in during the evening to watch, listen and play.

Stills taken from Friday's synthpack workshop and public sound intervention were projected onto a concrete wall.

Several synthpacks lay out for experimenting. Breaking Glass: My David Bowie Movie (2008) played on a small television.

A Vaio nearby looped his video serial The Ends (2009).

Two Mac laptops with headphones offered visitors a chance to experience a sampling of Michael's multimedia works featured on an interactive DVD, Video Sampler (works from 2001 - 2009).

Those who turned out and tuned in appreciated Michael's multimedia work. His extensive knowledge and ability to make building your own simple electronics easy left a lasting impression on the workshop's participants - the excitement was palpable when the synthpacks made their first sounds. Michael's presentation of his film and video work the following evening was charismatic and well-received by those who attended and a few people commented on how unexpected and refreshing it was to have such an event /artist in Boulder.

Some of this work and more can be experienced HERE on starvelab.com.

Special thanks to Sarah Kinn & BMoCA and to Brandon at Atmosphere for space; to KGNU and KBCO for featuring Michael and supporting local art happenings; to everyone who came out to be part of the experience. (Thanks also Cypher13 & Threadless for entertaining the thought of hosting on short notice.)

And many many many thanks to Michael Trigilio and Trish Stone for coming out from California - thank you for making it happen. You showed us a lot about hosting visiting artists, friendhship and professionalism. It was tremendously rewarding and inspiring to work with you both and a true honor to show Michael's work here.
