ARTDISTRICT's first event was held at the old 'Word is Out Bookstore' space at 10th & Pearl in downtown Boulder. Hoping to inspire and engage the local community with a dynamic event, CONVERSATION1 was intended to be the first in a series of group shows celebrating local artists. We hoped to inspire dialogue about local contemporary art and to provide opportunities for interaction and collaboration between mulitple mediums and diverse social/creative groups. Over 150 people attended.
Featuring the work of 7 artists, CONVERSATION1 included sculpture, painting, installation, performance and interactive pieces. It was well-received and the strong attendance reflected the community's willingness to support events and happenings of this kind. It was tremendously rewarding and infinitely inspiring to see the place packed with an enthusiastic crowd. The work shown was by local up&coming artists and the evening was punctuated by space clearer, fun Shui practioner and hypnotherapist, Jasmine. She gave a special blessing and sang a glorious song. Amazing.
Many thanks to those who helped us make it a success: Sarah Watts, Sarah Tomasetti, Lindsey Wolf, Emily Gettliffe, Cindy Cash, and everyone else who who helped with the bar; to Steve Z for the gorgeous photos; Tyler Beard for his installation expertise; Mark Collen for taking care of the signs; Mix1 for supplying some drinks; the property management for working with us. Special thanks also to the Cash family for lending their hands, not to mention their furniture, cleaning supplies, wine and more.
